Practice Profile

Our medical oncologists are a part of a compassionate care team of healthcare professionals who understand that every patient journey is unique and requires special treatment, attention, and care.

Medical Oncologists in Saskatchewan provide care as members of teams, which include nurses, pharmacists, radiation therapists, oncologists, surgeons, social workers, volunteers and palliative care staff. The Saskatoon Cancer Centre and Allan Blair Cancer Centre in Regina provide comprehensive cancer care to those living

in the province. Cancer care is extended to surrounding communities through the Community Oncology Program of Saskatchewan. Participation on clinical trials in collaboration with cooperative groups and industry (i.e., Alliance, NCIC CTG, and NRG) is a major focus of activity for our oncologists, and they are also involved in teaching medical students and residents.

Saskatchewan Licensure Requirements

All practising medical doctors in Canada must be registered with their provincial or territorial medical regulatory authority. In Saskatchewan, the regulatory body is the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan (CPSS). In Saskatchewan, we rely on the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (Royal College) to determine if the specialty training is equivalent to Canadian training programs. As a specialist physician trained outside of Canada, your route to obtaining licensure will be determined by your country of training.

 

Medical Council of Canada (MCC) Examinations:

           MCC Qualifying Examination Part 1 (MCCQE1); or

           United States Medical Licensing Examination Steps 1, 2 and 3; or

           Other proof of appropriate medical knowledge acceptable to the CPSS Council;

 

Certification:

·       Through the Approved Jurisdiction Route, a ruling letter outlining eligibility to take the Royal College exam(s) in primary specialty or certification letter; or

·       Through the Practice Eligibility Route, a letter confirming a pass standing on the Royal College exam(s) in primary specialty; or

·       American Board Certification with the associated specialty board

 

Currency of Practice: Have been in active independent practice within the past three (3) years and have practiced a minimum of five (5) months in the past five (5) years;

 

English Language Proficiency: may be required

 

Medical Degree: From a school listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools

 

Specialty Training: A formal postgraduate training program resulting in a Certificate of Completion of Training of discipline specific postgraduate training.

 

Remuneration

An employee Medical Oncologists earnings are:

C$397,391 - C$512,838

This does not include on-call, research, academic and other payments. Contracted work option is also offered

 

Saskatchewan Practice Incentives

Saskatchewan offers the perfect balance between a rewarding professional practice and a satisfying personal life.

 

Incentives available, including assistance with immigration expenses, relocation incentive of up to C$15,000, and a Recruitment and Retention incentive of up to C$100,000 over 5 years of practice in medical oncology in Saskatchewan!

 

The Saskatchewan Medical Association offers the following benefits and more:

Specialist Recruitment Incentive | Grant of C$30,000 to eligible specialists who establish a practice in Saskatchewan and remain for 36 months in that community.

 

Parental Leave Fund | The program provides up to C$2,000 per week for up to 20 weeks to a physician who is taking maternity, paternity or adoption leave from clinical practice.

 

Retention Fund | Provides financial rewards to physicians who practice in the province for extended periods of time. Depending on years of services the range is C$7,000 to C$14,000 per year (based on full-time practice).

 

Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) Reimbursement Fund | Rebates Saskatchewan physicians the fees associated with medical malpractice insurance premiums.

 

Insurance | Insurance products are available including disability, life, office overhead (business expense), extended medical and dental benefits, accidental death and dismemberment, medical office property, and benefits for employees of medical offices.
