OB SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Anesthesia Department Head and the Medical Director for the area, the anesthesiologist cares for patients before, during and after surgery, labour and delivery, and certain procedures. The anesthesiologist possesses unique skills and knowledge needed to support and, in certain appropriate situations, direct the delivery of care, such as resuscitation, intensive care medicine, palliative care and pain medicine.
Depending on the type of practice defined by their department, the anesthesiologist primarily plays a consulting role for other physicians.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Degree from a recognized medical school and residency granting a licence in anesthesia;
- A recognized medical school is a school that meets the following criterion;
- Accredited by the Committee on Accreditation of Canadian Medical Schools (CACMS) or the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) (in the United States);
- OR;
- Listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools with a note for Canada under the Sponsor Notes tab;
- Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick;
- Specialist credential recognized by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick;
- Active membership in the Canadian Medical Protective; Association or equivalent liability insurance association;
- Membership with the New Brunswick Medical Society;
- Privileges with Vitalité Health Network;
- Registration with New Brunswick Medicare;
