Stewarts Care is a long-established voluntary organisation, funded by the HSE under Section 38. We support people with intellectual disabilities through residential care, day services, independent living, job advocacy, and vocational training.
Purpose of the Post
Reporting to Speech and Language Therapy Manager, the Clinical Specialist Speech and Language Therapist will on work on a Permanent, Fulltime contract.
The Clinical Specialist Speech and Language Therapist will:
Play a lead role in the development and provision of a high-quality evidence-based Speech and language therapy service to adults with intellectual disabilities across residential and day services in Stewarts care in conjunction with the SLT manager. This incorporates the provision of dysphagia management and the provision of supports for communication skills, using a variety of approaches.
Resource up-to-date information and research on evidence based best practice for SLT service provision for adults with intellectual disabilities and autism.
Promote person centred practise and interdisciplinary working.
Act as an advanced clinical resource to speech and language therapists and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
Liaise with other clinical specialists and services providers to ensure the best possible supports for adults with intellectual disabilities.
Undertake clinical education and mentoring of SLTs within the department and of student SLTs.
Participate in research projects as appropriate.
The post holder will work in conjunction with members of the multidisciplinary team to enhance the quality of life of the people we support in Stewarts Care adult services.
Experience and Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Clinical Speech and Language Studies from the University of Dublin or equivalent qualification. Professional Qualifications received outside the Republic of Ireland including the U.K must be validated by the Validation unit of CORU prior to commencement of employment.
- Registered with CORU as a Speech and Language Therapist
- Membership or eligibility for membership of the Irish Association of Speech and Language Therapists (IASLT).
- Have five years full time (or an aggregate of five years) post registration qualification experience. Of which four years full time (or an aggregate of four years) post registration qualification clinical experience must be required in the area of specialism.
- Demonstrate a proven record of clinical excellence.
- Candidates must demonstrate evidence of continuing professional development relevant to the required area of specialism, in the form of postgraduate qualifications or relevant courses.
- Candidates must demonstrate achievement in the areas of clinical audit, quality improvement initiatives, practice developments, teaching and research.

Salary
In line with the Department of Health consolidated pay scales, the current salary scale is Speech and Language Therapist, Clinical Specialist; €70,698 – €82,040 per annum.
