Job purpose

To support the Consultants in the provision of Adult Mental Health Services in the Southern Sector of the Western Health and Social Care Trust.

The WHSCT Clinical Fellows are exciting new posts designed to allow Doctors temporarily outside of training to gain experience of their preferred specialty whilst expanding and enhancing their CV and competitiveness. This is a new non Postgraduate training role, which will strengthen our operational Adult Mental Health Service in the Tyrone and Fermanagh Hospital. The purpose of this post is to support Adult Mental Health clinical work alongside senior medical staff. It will also allow the successful candidate to pursue an interest in Medical Education, Simulation and Quality Improvement.

The post forms a core component of the medical staffing. The successful applicants will join a team of Consultants, specialty doctors, resident doctors, nurses social workers, psychologists, occupational therapists and other staff providing the range of services within Adult Mental Health Services.

 

Key responsibilities

  • Assisting with the management of patients and working as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Attending multidisciplinary meetings.
  • Completing a biopsychosocial history; Physical examination, recording findings, initiation of investigations and treatment, in consultation with the consultant if necessary.
  • Medication reconciliation.
  • Follow-up of investigation results.
  • Documentation in patients' case notes.
  • Liaise with other specialties and the multidisciplinary team as needed.
  • Completing Correspondence to GP, referrers for example review letters, discharge letters.
  • Supervision of medical students during their clinical clerkship.
  • Any other duties of a professional nature which may arise and which are considered to be within the officer's competence.
  • Participate in the duty rota as referred to under "Terms and Conditions".
  • The post holder will have protected, supported and supervised 1-2 SPA per week to allow them to pursue an interest in either: Medical Education; Simulation; Quality Improvement; or a Psychiatry Sub-Specialty.
  • The post holder will be expected to participate in initiatives to improve clinical effectiveness and maximize the use of the hospitals facilities.
  • The post holder will be expected to take continuing professional development within the guidelines set by the General Medical Council and the Royal College.
  • Undertake mandatory training.
