The Institute for Urban Indigenous Health (IUIH) leads the development, planning and delivery of comprehensive primary health care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living in Southeast Queensland. Together with our four Aboriginal community-controlled founding members, we are focused on our collective vision of healthy, strong and vibrant Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, families and communities.

The Quality and Innovation team provides clinical oversight and support t IUIH member services and is responsible for the service development and delivery of urban Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and family wellbeing care. This diverse team includes IUIH Data and Research, Logistics, Oral Health, Pharmacy, Policy, Social Health, and Regional Clinical Support.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced General Practitioner to join our Regional Relievers Team and contribute to the continuous improvement of culturally appropriate health care services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in Southeast Queensland. Full time, part time and casual flexibility available!

  • This role includes travel to IUIH member services across SEQ, providing flexibility and exposure to diverse healthcare settings.

Key aspects of the role may include:

  • Virtual Care Team: Provide telehealth services, expanding access to care across rural and remote communities.
  • Clinic Cover: Deliver in-person care at various member service clinics across the region, ensuring continuity of healthcare delivery.
  • Home Visiting Service: Provide healthcare in patients' homes.
  • Palliative Care: Work with a multidisciplinary team to deliver compassionate care to individuals nearing the end of life.
  • Moblink Outreach: Support mobile health units
  • Staying Deadly Hubs: Provide healthcare services within community hubs designed to support Mental health and well-being.
  • Salisbury Women and Children’s Health: Deliver specialized care to women and children, supporting their health needs.
  • School Health Checks: Work alongside schools in the community to provide health checks for children, contributing to their long-term well-being.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • RACGP
  • Vocationally Registered (VR) General Practitioner
  • Unconditional registration with AHPRA / Medical Board of Australia
  • Current Medical Indemnity Insurance
  • Ability to work sensitively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, respecting traditional culture and values at the forefront of care delivery.
  • A solid understanding of the health, social, and emotional wellbeing needs of urban Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
  • Eligibility to obtain provider numbers in the required locations
  • A minimum of five years’ postgraduate experience in primary care
  • Demonstrated clinical experience and ability to contribute to a medical/primary healthcare team
  • Strong skills in patient assessments, clinical care planning, and primary health care strategies, including treatment, investigations, and referrals

Desirable (not mandatory):

  • Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people or communities.
