Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care is a 315-bed academic and teaching hospital that provides specialized mental health, addiction and geriatric care. Located onthe shores of Georgian Bay, we serve some of the most complex and disadvantaged individuals in Ontario and are the sole provider of high-secure forensic mental health services in the province.

The Manager of the float pool is currently seeking multiple full time registered nurses. The purpose of the position is to provide mental health nursing care, physicalassessment and related care required to patients within a specialized inter-professional clinical program.

The Float Pool is an ideal opportunity for individuals looking to gain diverse nursing experience across various departments within a hospital. This program is perfectfor adaptable professionals with strong decision-making skills. Float Pool staff, including Registered Nurses (RNs), Registered Practical Nurses (RPNs), and PatientCare Assistants (PCAs), provide nursing care across a range of patient programs, including both high-security forensic and regional care units.

Float Pool team members will be on-boarded, cross-trained and scheduled to work across all clinical inpatient areas on both regional and provincial programs. The populations we serve within our inpatient programs include Forensics, Dual Diagnosis, Geriatric Psychiatry, Acute Assessment, Transition and Recovery andConcurrent Disorders Programs. Shifts will be assigned to meet the staffing needs of the organization and are subject to change as determined by the Employer. This flexibility allows staff to collaborate with multiple nursing teams and enhance their skills in a variety of settings, supporting the hospital's operations and patient carerequirements.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Providing leadership in the provision of nursing services within the nursing and inter-professional teams especially in circumstances when the patient’s conditionis more complex and the outcomes of patient care are unpredictable
  • Assessing patient condition and needs based on interviews, interaction and direct observation; developing and implementing therapeutic patienttreatment/care/discharge plans
  • Developing therapeutic nurse-patient relationships utilizing nursing and other theoretical or practice frameworks i.e. psychosocial rehabilitation, counselling,health teaching, administering and monitoring medication, and teaching life skills in preparation for community reintegration
  • Observing, assessing, recording, and reporting patient condition; evaluating progress and modifying plans as appropriate; assessing patient risk to self and/orothers; participating in quality improvement activities to facilitate changes in nursing practice and inter-professional care
  • Contributing to a safe, therapeutic environment through adherence to the College of Nurses of Ontario Standards, program/facility-wide policies andprocedures, including mandatory training.

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current registration in good standing as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario, current CPR and First Aid
  • Valid certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) with Oxygen Therapy (OT) and Airway Management (AM).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and/or experience with medical and mental health nursing theory and practice
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and/or experience with medication practices, side effects, and current treatment modalities, knowledge of mental healthmedications an asset
  • Recent mental health nursing in a mental health facility or service is preferred, including familiarity with the recovery philosophy, and trauma informed care
  • Forensic, High Secure experience is an asset
  • Experience with patient safety including emergency patient care procedures
  • Results oriented work ethic to work independently and undertake tasks needed to accomplish work objectives and deliver quality, consistent and timely results
  • Demonstrated leadership, conflict resolution, interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Proven written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to adapt readily to change
  • Models and promotes core ethical practice, Waypoint Values (Caring, Respect, Accountability, Innovation), and reflects an optimistic and positive attitude
  • Preference for proficiency in French/English language
