Job summary
The post-holder will work as a member of the nursing team, carrying out direct care and clinical tasks for which they will have been deemed competent. The post holder will support the Registered Nurse and Care Team and will work under their delegated authority. The post holder will assist patients/service users with fundamental nursing care in all aspects of the activities of daily living, as delegated by registered staff, for example, washing, toileting, eating and drinking.
Main responsibilities
The post holder will:
- Assist qualified nursing staff in the delivery of high quality nursing care and maintain confidentiality at all times.
- Undertake clinical duties with patients in a manner that maintains their safety, comfort and dignity at all times
- Assist patients/service users with fundamental nursing care in all aspects of the activities of daily living, as delegated by registered staff, for example, washing, and toileting, eating and drinking.
- Carry out assigned duties and clinical tasks under the direction of a qualified nurse in such a way as to ensure that nursing care is of a high standard.
- Support patients during and after activities.
- Carry out investigative and diagnostic procedures as delegated by the qualified nursing staff and other members of the care team.
- Accepts responsibility for any nursing procedures delegated to the post holder after appropriate training and assessment of competency.
- Observe and report any changes in patients’ condition and behaviour to the nurse in charge.
- Maintain clear and accurate records in all aspects of the role
- Reflect on practice, learn from it and attend in-service training programmes as required.
- Receive, retrieve, store and deliver relevant information maintaining confidentiality at all times.
- Escort patients to and from other departments always maintaining their safety and dignity.
- Must be willing to work evening and weekend, and public holiday shifts.
